With as this much importance, it only makes sense to have your videos shown on these sites, giving you a much better shot at a high search engine result.

Understanding Link Building and Its Importance

There are many concepts as to how you can improve your Google PageRank but link building is one of the most powerful and effective ways to achieve this. But first, let us understand what a link directory really is so you will know how you can benefit from it. Basically, a link directory is a website that lists different resources on the internet. The topics that can be found in the directory can range from being broad to being specific.

One of the most popular link directories today is the "Open directory Project" or otherwise known as the OPD. This is directory that is manned by real people who will check the relevance of the websites being submitted. The websites that are deemed relevant will be included in the directory to enable users to find only the useful information they need. In addition, you can be assured that websites that are included in directories are not spam or junks because these sites go through the screening process of editors.

There are several kinds of web directories today: free and paid directories. It would be in the best interest of your site to submit your site to as many directories as possible. This is because being included in a directory gives your site credibility in the eyes of the visitors. However, in most cases, it will take months for your site to appear in free directories because of the vast amounts of websites that the editors of these directories need to go through everyday. And you should note that there is no guarantee that your website will actually be listed in these directories if another website that is already there have the same content as your website.

An alternative to free directories is the paid directories. Usually, the website you submit to paid directories will be accepted. Sometimes though, the fee you have to pay to get listed can be quite expensive, take the case of Yahoo directories, you have to pay $300 for every submission you send.

Overall though, the time and effort you spend in submitting to these directories is worth it because people treat these directories as a sort of online library so your site will surely be visited. And because manual submission to thousands of directories in the internet can be tiresome, you can now avail of directory submitter software that will enable you to submit your site to these directories easily.

Building Valuable Backlinks

Building decent backlinks to your site can be one of the most important strategies in gaining... awareness, in relation to sites of your circle, higher rankings and crutiatlly, long term respect from the search engines.

But, the links you build should be on relevant higher ranking sites and not on link farms or useless directories. Relevant directory listings can definitely be a bonus but don't focus too much on them, but stuff like DMOZ, Yahoo directory listings can be valuable.

So, how do you go about getting backlinks? well you can either pay for them or ask politely for a free link, simple as that. Just get a list of relevant sites to yours and ones which are at least... PR3 depending on your own pagerank, but then again, a backlink is a backlink, so just get a decent list of relevant sites to begin.

Once you have a good list, go to each of these sites, find the contact page or find another way to find out who owns the site and email the webmaster asking for a link. Just say that you like their site and ask politely if they wouldn't mind linking to you as you're another good resource for that topic.

Now some people don't just give away links willy nilly so you might end up in 1 of 4 scenarios, either

A: You get a response saying that they will link to you... (perfect!).

B: You get a response asking for a reciprocal link.

C: You get a response asking for payment for a placement.

D: You get a straight... no.

So if you get a straight up yes, that's perfect; you've just gotten yourself a free backlink.

If you get a reply asking for a return link... alot of people would say reciprocal links are pointless and cancel each other out... well, I'm not sure they entirely do but even if they do, depending on the traffic to the apposing site - it still may create a tiny bit more awareness / traffic to your site, so I would say it's worth it. It surely can't do any harm, so why not.

If you get a reply stating that he / she / they do not give out free backlinks and it will cost to have a link placed, ask how much, if they haven't said so already.

Then evaluate if it's worth it, go find out what sort of prices links are going for on certain PR's and if it's even worth buying one on this site. Find out the sites traffic, age, rankings etc.

If you get a straight no then try replying back asking why, if they give no reason -maybe they just didn't want to give out a free link, in which case either offer a return link or a payment (if it's worth it).

Also, when asking for backlinks it's important to get good anchor text. It's been proven that anchor text links are pretty valuable long term these days on the web so you should get in there now. You should vary the text in which you ask your link to be named each time, but not so much and so broad that it could be mistaken as spam. Too much of exactly the same text could also be wrongly taken as inerlinking or cheating by the search engines so make sure you get good healthy text links, but not overloaded.

Say for example you own a website about sleeping problems, get a few links with the text Can't Sleep? or something like that, maybe some with the text Sleeping Problems and then one or two with your actual site title.

A good cycle of healthy anchor text links should help remind Google etc that the backlinks are genuine.

Linking can backfire

Linking to other sites is important for enhancing your website's search engine ranking and to bring more traffic to your website; thereby generating more business for you. But linking with irrelevant and blacklisted sites can backfire and your website too might get black listed and or penalized by the search engines (something which you will not want for sure). Moreover, you will lose genuine visitors if you provide links to such irrelevant / nuisance websites on your own website. In general it will bring down the quality of your website.

Trading links with blacklisted sites should be avoided. Websites which deal with multiple sites under the same identity, websites that contain pornographic material, racist websites, illegal or illicit websites that are involved in harassment / stalking / fraud, and websites that plagiarize / copy content etc from other websites can be easily identified. Such websites generally end up getting blacklisted with search engines and you should avoid them at all costs. If you have any links with such sites your website might get blacklisted too.

Sites that exist primarily to sell products and services should not be linked to (mostly, such websites would not be ready to trade links anyhow). If the website has information and content on the use of product(s) it is selling, it can be of use and can be linked to. But sites which contain only prices and specifications of particular products and services might not be of any interest to the visitors of your website (in most cases, unless the product is a very popular one or the website has a good ranking). Moreover, you don't want to flood your website with links that don't contribute much to enhancing your website's ranking; your better off searching for better websites to trade links with.

Do not link with sites that are accessible through specific browsers and software, and require payment to view the content. Sometimes, such sites hang the computer and put users to inconvenience. The users will not pass through to your site in such situations.

Generally, it will be helpful if you trade links with compatible sites that are easily accessible. Take judicious decision for linking, else it may backfire and defeat the whole objective of linking.

Linking: a serious affair

Since you would like to sell your product or services to the maximum potential customers, securing a high ranking for your website is very essential to increase traffic and visibility. Certain linking strategies are followed for securing high-ranking on search engines. Getting it wrong on linking strategy might prove costly to your business.

When we talk of linking, we are generally referring to reciprocal linking and one way linking. Reciprocal linking involves linking Site A to Site B and Site B linking back to Site A. One way linking on the other hand simply involves Site A linking to Site B. Both strategies will help your site move up the ranking ladder; since 'the number of links to your website' is one of the most important parameters that search engines consider for ranking websites.

One important linking strategy is to create inbound links in such a way that they relate to the context of the website which is providing the inbound link to your website. Having all the inbound links point to the same page on your website will make those links less useful. The context-relative linking will not only help better your website's rank but also help you in meeting your objective by keeping the visiting user interested in your website and your products / services.

Another good strategy is to have inbound links appear within the text of a page. This would look natural for the reader of the site. In fact, it is most natural for a good high quality link to appear within the text of a page and you would be amazed to find that such a strategy, though a bit tiresome to implement, can lead to rich dividends.

One thing you must always remember is to never compromise on the quality of linking websites (for the sake of getting a large number of links). Though quantity is important too, but inbound links arising from blacklisted websites or from 'link farms' can lead to your website getting blacklisted too. In such a case your website's rank may have a free-fall. And getting it back up might be a tough job.

The most important factor about link building is the relevancy of the websites. To get your link on the others page involves the process of link exchange or reciprocal link. This means they will put the link on their website in exchange for you doing the same. The more relevant the website is, the more beneficial it is otherwise non relevant website can have negative impact on your search engine ranking. The quality of an inbound link is considered on the basis of its page rank. It depends on your promotion strategy whether you need quality instances and back links then it is better to go for inbound links of higher page rank. On the other hand if you need more visitors to your website and main aim is link popularity then inbound link from page rank zero can also solve your purpose.

There are two types of link building one way and two way. In One Way there is link to your website with no back link or no reciprocal link. Two way involves a link to your website from an external source and a link from your website back to the external source. Link building is a time consuming and tedious process. Still it is one of the best SEO process for getting targeted hits from other websites. So it is an essential part of any search engine optimization campaign. This not only builds and increases links with other websites, it also enhances relationships of webmasters of different websites to achieve their web promotion goals in a collective manner.

The rate of Link exchange should be optimum. Some SEO experts prefer it not to be too fast as some search engines prefer the slow approach. But it's a fact that search engine givers higher rank to those websites that have quality inbound links, consistent and relevant.

In conclusion, link building campaign can be successful on the basis of these factors. Choose the proper relevant website and then choose the most relevant category for link exchange. Then see the page rank considerations. If the aim is to increase traffic then even relevant website of page rank zero could meet your requirements. On the other hand if you need quality back links then you can for link exchange with higher page rank websites.

Traffic & Links -- Tips To Build Links That Generate Traffic

One of the effective strategies that webmasters and web owners use to optimize search engine results is to build links in order to gain link popularity. It is truly a working technique because when you actually look at how search engines evaluate and rank a website, you will be amazed that the presence of external site links pointing to your website really do count.

With this kind of a strategy, it is believed that a lot of site owners have engaged into such activity because of its proven effectiveness in bringing traffic onto a site. Ensuring that this will work, the following guidelines are suggested:

1.) Contribute and submit articles to relevant sites. This is one good way of promoting your site to other sites that would want to build external link with you. By contributing helpful and insightful articles on their sites, you are not only helping its clients by building a stronger relationship with the site owner. In which case, when you have successfully built the relationship, building links with his site will not make longer arrangements.

2.) Choose the site where you are exchanging links. Not all sites are deemed relevant and pertinent by a search engine. You have to make sure that you are building a link with a site that has relevance and at a certain has direct connection with your site is actually driving at. It is going to be a total unproductive move if you will be linking your site that bears no connection or relevance with your own site.

3.) If you have enough pennies to shell out, you may want to engage at submitting your site to respectable and trusted site directories. This move may seem to be a costly move because you will have to pay a specified amount to the site directory just so it can include your site to its linked sites.

Quick Link Popularity -- Quick Recognition

Companies earning their bread and butter online are aggressive in their advertising schemes. After all, it is not enough that a company has a reliable consumer base in the present, but it must also learn to expand and increase its sales in order to have a better future in the business.

But with a lot of competition in the situation, more and more are employing ways to get more customers - from email marketing to link exchange programs to search engine optimization. But apart from that, there is another way...

Quick Link Popularity is another sure-fire method to get noticed in the world wide web.

Quick Link Popularity is simple - one simply has to be clever and smart enough to place direct links for the website in areas of the WWW where target customers can find them. This cleverness is based on the fact that a business does not have to post weblinks everywhere or buys links that cost the business a lot of cash, but to post wisely where interested people will find them.

That means researching well where the target audience visits - such as related website or connected interested groups - then posting quick links there.

Another great quick link way is to make articles that are related to the products being sold in the company and providing a link at the bottom. One does not have to make a long story to get noticed: in fact, more people might get bored with it.

A 300-word article may be enough to feed all the important information that will interest viewers and readers researching for a specific idea or item, and immediately after the article, he or she can access the company website by clicking on the quick link. Thus, this is another way of becoming more popular in the Internet and increasing sales, too.

What Is Link Popularity?

You're likely questioning what in the world can be so popular about a link! Link popularity refers to the ranking assigned to your site by the search engines, and it determines the ranking your page gets when keywords are entered into a search engine. Therefore, you're most likely speculating, how do I make my link popular? Search engines are discretionary, giving status in addition to ranking to websites that acquire links to their pages from closely related, quality sites. Google developed the process, and now virtually all the most popular search engines use it to rank your sites in their indexes.
The more frequently used your keyword is, the tougher it will be to achieve link popularity, but without attaining this step, it is nearly certain your webpage may never rank highly on any search engine. Nonetheless don't be frustrated; there are competent ways of accomplishing link popularity via the most competitive keywords. The first is that merely linking up with a vast group of other webpages will not achieve link popularity.
Search engines may well aggressively discriminate against your web page if you are interlinked with a link farm, so steer clear of them. The next thing to remember is the condition of the site you are linking to. In no way link to a page you have reservations about your visitors seeing. Linking to websites of poor quality would certainly diminish your link popularity, if not essentially devastate it. So let's get to what you really need to do to obtain top link popularity and lift your rankings on all the popular search engines.
Find different quality websites that would elevate your link popularity. Try to come up with sites that are ultimately related to yours, so not only will your link popularity increase, but your customer base might also be expanded. You want to steer clear of your competitors and hunt for sites that are useful to your web page's visitors. By linking to a related webpage that could be related to your web site's traffic, you are increasing both of your web page's business likelihood and both of your sites' link popularity. Not all websites want to link to other sites, so you will need to do some research when you are checking out probable linking partners.
Make certain you enter keywords that you consider quality clients may also enter to turn up your own webpage. Remember, your criteria are quality, highly ranked, non-competing webpages that have a links or resources page. Go to these sites and objectively judge them. Then consider the other websites they are linked to, and determine if your own web page would fit in with the group. The primarily thing to do is to add a link on your own links page to their website. After you have added their link, you need to contact the webmaster of their website. Make certain you emphasize that you have really visited their webpage, and that their web page is not just a haphazard pick.
Give them the address of your links page, and ask them to see out the link for themselves. It's a very good idea to remark that they will not only have the benefit of the increased visitors your web site will charge their way, but you will also drive up their link popularity. At last, tell them you would greatly appreciate if they would reciprocally add a link on their own links page to your web page. After you have emailed all pertinent websites, be sure to inspect these websites continuously to check if they have added a link to your page. Give it about a month, and if no link appears, try a follow up email.
Then give it another month, and if your site is still absent from their links page, it's time to delete their link from your own links page. The only time you should pursue a link further than this is if you believe a site is imperative to your link popularity and your business needs. You can use a terrific program called SEO Elite and let the software run in the background and tell you which link partners have removed your link while you're doing something else. How to find an ethical Search Engine Marketing Company

It's a dog-eat-dog marketplace out there. The web is teeming with millions of websites and yours is just another one of them. To rise above and ahead of this cut-throat competition, you need to work with an effective search engine marketing company that can put your website up among the top results in relevant keyword searches and help you reach out to your target audience.

Search engine marketing is vital for improving your site's conversion rate, attracting relevant traffic and maximising your Return on Investment (ROI).

Search engine optimisation is not an overnight job. It is a highly specialised and time consuming task. It may take months to get the desired results.

Although search engines issue broad guidelines, no one can say with certainty exactly how search engines rank websites. A professional SEO company has a good understanding of search engine behavior and experience in successfully achieving top ranking websites to advise you about the competition, ingredients, mechanisms and strategies that can be employed to make your website visible, frequently visited and a revenue generator.

The top 3 search engines, Google, Yahoo! and MSN, receive over 1.2 billion searches daily! Unless you use the correct search engine optimisation techniques with your website, you will not rank high with the search engines. Here is where the services of a professional search engine marketing company to handle your SEO campaign may help to deliver the desired results.

Search engines are strict about ethics

Search engines are clear in their guidelines about what they like and what they don't like. A good search engine optimisation company uses the specific sets of criteria laid down by search engines and their expertise gained over the years about what has worked in the past to increase the rankings of your site.

The SEO steps that abide by the search engine guidelines are called ethical and practices that are not approved by search engine guidelines are unethical.

Because search engines operate in an automated way, it is possible for webmasters to use methods not approved by search engines for better ranking. But these unethical attempts are fraught with risks. Once your site is caught using unethical practices and banned by search engines, it will take a long time and a significant amount of effort to rank high in search engines again. Some SEO companies may use unethical practices to get high rankings of your website, but the results are only temporary. In fact they are devaluing your site.

Unethical search engine marketing companies do not consider the long term and want to show quick results to impress you. Hence, it is important to find an ethical SEO company that will ensure sustainable high search engine rankings.

Unethical SEO Practices

It's disheartening that many companies claim to be in top rankings of search engine but the truth is many of them are hype. If you're serious about your business, don't try to bluff the search engines. The unethical practices will be caught eventually, leaving your website far behind the competition.

Unethical practices used by search engine optimisation companies include:

Keywords stuffing: Unnecessary repetition of keywords in the content

Page swapping: A highly unethical practice where a webmaster copies a page from a high-ranking website, changes the title and description META tags, then submits this page to the search engines. Once a ranking is obtained, they replace the stolen page with one of their own web pages.

Copyright violation: Copying content of other websites without permission.

Irrelevant link exchange: Establishing reciprocal links with irrelevant websites for the sole purpose of increasing the number of links to your website.

How to select an ethical SEO company

Here are some tips for selecting an ethical SEO services company: Learn the basics of SEO: Study some basics of website promotion and search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques so that it will not be a new concept to you. These can be accessed easily on internet. Just spend little time to your research.

Does it sound too good? Be wary if an SEO company offers ultra quick results. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is unethical. Both time and efforts are involved in the SEO process. There are no short cuts.

Evaluate your needs: Evaluate which SEO program best fits your needs. You can evaluate this by checking sales conversions, log reports, and so on. You must discuss your objectives with the SEO services provider then analyze yourself, how good it would be for serving your purpose.

Guarantee: Make sure that the search engine marketing company gives you some level of guarantee for their services. But, be wary of companies that offer a #1 ranking guarantee. No one has that much control over Google, and it is a sure sign that they may use unethical practices.

Experience: Check the industry experience of the people behind the company and also get feedback from the references given.

Strategies: When you choose to optimise your website, you need to look at the methodology a search engine optimisation company would be using. Ask the SEO company about the strategies they are going to use to optimise your website...

Cost: You usually get what you pay for. An offer for 500 links for $29 is a possible sign of unethical practices.

You need to keep in mind these few points while you research SEO services for your website. Return on investment (ROI) can depend on several factors, such as the size of your market place, geographical target area, the sales value of your products/services and the number of people searching online for your products/services.

Searching for an authentic ethical SEO company is a time consuming task. But remember that it's not simply enough to only achieve better search engine rankings. SEO Methods Black and White

In general all of the methods or tactics of carrying out search engine optimization can be categorized under two names. They are "white hat" and "black hat".

White Hat - All the methods and tactics of carrying out search engine optimization are regarded as "white hat" if they are in accordance with the guidelines of the search engines and do not include any deception or trickery. It is important to note, as the guidelines on any search engine are not written anywhere in the form of rules or commands. Apart from conforming to the guidelines, using "white hat" methods also means that the content which is indexed and ranked by the search engine is exactly same to what a user will see when they visit the same web page.

Black Hat - These are the SEO methods for improving the rankings in the search engines that are condemned by the search engines and these methods also involve trickery. These methods include practices such as "hiding" the text either by making it colored similar to the background or by making it invisible, getting the users redirected on to a page which is different to the one provided to the search engines. In general the method or tactic that resulted in redirecting a visitor to a page which is different to the one which the search engine has ranked is termed as "black hat". One such popular practice is "cloaking" in which one version of the page is provided to the search engines and the visitors get an entirely different version of the same web page.

Search engines can reduce the ranking of the site in its search results or altogether eliminate the name of the website from its listings if it discovers that the site is using "black hat" SEO methods in order to deceive them and the public. Therefore it is generally recommended not to use the "black hat" methods. Such penalties can be imposed either by the search engines by manually reviewing the website or can be imposed automatically by their algorithms.

There is one very popular example that took place in February 2006 when Google removed the BMW Germany and RICOH Germany websites from their search results due to both of them using "black hat" SEO methods in order to improve their site's ranking in the search results. However Google restored their pages in its results when both these companies apologized for deceiving Google and made the required changes.

4 Reasons Why You Need SEO for Your Website

In today's world of e-commerce and online marketing, search engines play a vital role in determining your website's success or failure. As such, a high ranking website is always at an advantage to a lower ranking website. There are many reasons why you need search engine optimization for your website. We will look at the top 4 reasons:

1. The primary objective of search engine optimization is to increase visitors to your site by enabling your site to rank higher on the search engines. A high ranking is very important because visitors often do not go beyond the first or second page when they search at a search engine. Even if your website contains relevant material, but ranks lower, it is most likely that your website does not get a click. So, getting a better ranking for your website is one of the most important reasons to go for search engine optimization.

2. A high-ranking website also creates a good first impression on the visitors. It tells the visitors that you have marketed yourselves better than your competitors and that you are serious about your business.

3. You also need to optimize your website to go beyond the targeted audience and give your product or service a broader appeal. It is true that every product or service is targeted at a particular audience, however, if your website ranks high on the search engines, it definitely has a chance to go beyond that boundary and get you business from those territories which you had not thought-of or from those areas which you had not explored. You must know that anything online has no territorial limits.

4. With search engine optimization, you can also position yourself better before prospective customers. With the use of relevant keywords you can create a sense of familiarity and better rapport with the potential customers; and hence win the confidence of your prospective customers.

The bottom line is that optimizing your website for search engines will attract more visitors to your website and help you beat competition. And this will translate into more business for you.

Start SEO Early to Make Money Online Faster

I'm always surprised to find that most people have not realized that you don't have to finish your website in order to start the process of search engine optimization. Nevertheless, common sense works against this because you normally want to finish your site or product before doing anything else. How many of us are perfectionists that have to have everyone 'just right' in order to move to the next step?

Fighting your own impulses to complete all of your online work is really key to early SEO promotion. How many sites have you worked on putting in many hours, testing its functionality, and finally having it perfected only to wait two to four months to see it finally rising in search engines? If you start submitting your site early you'll be that much closer to the immediate SEO benefit.

I have found that it typically takes four to eight weeks of productive organic growth to get your site listed, indexed and ranked well. My advice to you is to submit your site to as many search engines, directories and forums as possible once you have your first landing pages ready. Also, consider submitting articles with your backlink to as many free content sites as you can.

Your best bet is to have some original content on your initial pages before you begin. I recommend at least four pages; a landing page, two detailed pages and one site map. You can arrange these in any fashion. Just be sure that you clearly label each page link from the home page with its appropriate header tags such as 'Site Map' so the search engine crawlers can index your site correctly.

This becomes even easier if you are using a blogging site such as Blogger. Follow the same rule by creating four entries making the very first entry a site map and adding it to the blog sidebar or footer. You want the blog to appear as close to a standard site as possible.

Using free articles to prepopulate your first pages or blog entries and changing them later is another possible strategy. You will get the benefit of the search engine crawlers 'seeing' the content and your site will be properly indexed. Don't worry, you can always alter them later without too much impact. Just don't wait too long. Try to keep the title and subject the same if at all possible.

Whatever your solution just remember that driving traffic early is a great way to make money online sooner rather than later.

The Most Affordable SEO Marketing is Free

I recently had a self proclaimed SEO expert/consultant email to tell me that the HTML on my website was, in his words, 'Crap'. That is very constructive, especially coming from somebody who professes to be qualified to charge for his SEO services.

He had apparently checked out my source code and come to that conclusion. I got to thinking: the site couldn't have been crap or an expert would not have got so worried as to check out what I was doing. I was obviously a threat, and if that is the case, then the title of this article must be very close to the mark.

I responded by offering him my eBook on SEO in return for his expert services if he could inform me exactly where I was going wrong. Needless to say, I am still awaiting a reply. I am wondering how much he charges for teaching SEO when he fails to realise something as fundamental as that search engines are not too bothered about the formatting of the HTML as long it is understood. It is the text that crawlers are more interested in these days.

As I pointed out, my HTML must have been understood since the home page my website at that time (a week ago as I write) was at #3 on Google and #1 on Yahoo for its main keyword against 850 million other results, and also at #4 on Google for another page for the same keyword and also at #2 for another keyword. Quite frankly, if that is what 'crap' HTML does for you then bring it on - I will to do worse HTML next time!

That got me to thinking that if people pay guys like that for their advice, then perhaps they might be better doing their own search engine optimization. After all, it is not rocket science. Now, don't get me wrong here, because there are many SEO experts out there that provide a great service and are also honest. Loads of people do not have the time to optimize their own sites, and these people are good at what they do - better then me. However, I know my websites, and I know what I am looking for from them. I therefore know more about the SEO needed with them that any expert would.

That is why I get such good results. Not with all my websites, I should admit, and certainly not with the minisite that this article is intended to promote. Like any article, this is intended to promote a website that offers a product that teaches what I know about SEO by means of screenshots of my websites and the HTML used to get #1 positions against very stiff and professional opposition such as Wikipedia, Harvard University and 'About'. However, that's another story and not for this article.

This article is about the cheapest or most affordable SEO. In my opinion that is DIY! That's right, Do It Yourself! If you have the time. If not, then most of these other people advertising online can probably do a good job for you (apart from my email friend). The most affordable SEO is free - if you know what to do. Quite frankly, there is little to do these days. Google no longer pay attention to Meta tags, and Google are the biggest in my opinion.

Google spiders crawl the text in your HTML, look for H1 tags and Title tags and check out your keywords to make sure there are not too many. Apart from that there's not all that much to it, apart perhaps for alt image tags. Even keywords are not all that important - Google spiders are very literary these days. They have been to Spider College learning English, and can now tell what you are writing about without you having to tell them.

Your keywords are now largely irrelevant. The spiders know - they ain't stupid any more. They don't need you to write these keywords over and over again to tell them - in fact, if you do then they get very annoyed at you treating them as though they were ignorant, and will in fact punish you for it.

Get used to it you SEO guys: search engine optimization is still relevant, but not as important as it once was. These educated BA spiders know what you are talking about (or writing about) and the most affordable SEO marketing is free, assuming you can write and don't try to teach these crawling guys with the long legs what they already know. And don't try to fool me that your HTML has to be perfect - I know different.

How to Rank in Yahoo

According to a recent study, almost 25% of all internet searches are carried out using Yahoo. It's time to ask the question: how well does your site rank in Yahoo?

Yahoo almost seems like an old friend to many us. Once a hub at the centre of the online world, this is a search engine that has almost been neglected while Google has become so dominant in the market.

The figures above show that Yahoo is still worth spending time on - plenty of internet users still choose to search via this search engine, partly because the main Yahoo home page is used by millions of people worldwide.

If you're struggling to get good rankings from Google, then you may find that Yahoo also provides a useful way of making up for the shortfall in traffic.

Optimizing your site for Yahoo is fortunately a pretty straightforward process - the key point to remember is that this is a search engine that likes you to use HTML as it was designed to be used - that means avoiding unethical black hat techniques.

When looking at improving your Yahoo rankings, always remember that content is king. If you have great content and make solid use of the TITLE, H1 and H2 tags then you've made a very good start.

In terms of the structure of your website, you should try to make the site easy to navigate and to keep things simple. Include a site map that links to all of the pages on your website - Yahoo finds sites easier to crawl when they have a site map in place and you'll also find it a benefit with the other major search engines.

You'll also need some good inbound links to do well in Yahoo. Consider the anchor text that is being used in those inbound links - you want to use your keywords within the anchor text but don't overdo it - you may be penalised if you do.

Finally, avoid black hat techniques. Cloaking, doorway pages and hidden text are all great ways to get your website completely removed from the Yahoo rankings.

Stick to the ethical means of building your site and you'll find that Yahoo can be a great source of traffic.

Is Your Website Search Engine Friendly?

Building a website that looks great and is fun to use can be a great project, but what most of us really want is to be attracting visitors to our site. Making a search engine friendly website is vital to achieving this.

Firstly, before discussing how to go about making your website search engine friendly, we need to try and provide a bit of basic information on how search engines work.

Each of the major search engines have some basic similarities. They all have a number of automated processes called spiders, which are used to crawl the web. What these processes basically do is to follow hyperlinks all over the internet and then, when they arrive at a new page, to record some details of that page.

At the end of any such crawl, the search engines are able to build up some information about your website and the type of content that it contains.

When an internet user then carries out a search using the search engine, this information is used to decide how well your website matches the search criteria. The better the search engine considers the match, the better your rank in the results.

Ensuring that your website is search engine friendly involves two main steps - the first is to get your site included in the search engine results and the second is to get the best possible rankings.

In order to make sure that your site is crawled, it's vital that you build a site structure that is easily accessible, both by search engine spiders and by real visitors to your site.

You should try and make sure that every page on your website can be accessed within 2 or 3 clicks from your home page. To help the spiders find all of your pages, you should also include a site map, with links to every page on your site.

There are numerous steps involved when it comes to improving rankings but some basics include making proper use of the TITLE, H1 and H2 tags. If you're not sure how these should be used correctly then take some time to look at the HTML standards.

Add good quality, unique content to your website and make sure that your site is regularly refreshed - in other words, add new content regularly.

Finally, look to link to sites that are relevant to your own and try to gain links from related websites.

If you follow these simple steps, you'll soon have a search engine friendly website.

New, different Adsense tips

People seem very concerned with optimizing their pages to get the most out of Adsense by using placement, colors etc; we've all heard this. Something that seems to get overlooked is focusing on demographics who aren't Ad blind like most of us. These demographics can be people of all ages and many areas of interest. For example, senior citizens or children would be more likely to click ads to explore a site than an SEO blog reader. You don't even need to go through the trouble of perfectly blending the ads in; if you're targeting the right demographic, you'll get click-happy people wandering all over your site. Where there's a link, they'll find it. I've stumbled on to this tip from the experience of having a site targeted toward senior citizens and thought I'd share with you guys.

I have written a report/theory a few years back on various types of users and content and how to best match these two. I did not quite have time to finish this report off because it got into detailed psychology...

For example you will have "determined seekers", users that need to find something for example a free sms service. They will not stop until they find this service. They will end up on your website by searching for something like "free sms". If your website offers free sms these users will stay and use your service. If you simply talk about the service and don't provide it your Adsense ads will display related ads and these "determined seekers" will most definitely click and most likely never come back... etc

It was quite a detailed report with various sub categories and optimisation strategies.

Top 5 Link Building Expert Strategies

Link Popularity is a greatly misunderstood subject among webmasters and online business owners. The major search engines have developed complicated algorithms that rank web pages for relevancy and quality. In determining relevancy, the search engines tend to measure on page factors such as relevant content. For determining quality, the search engines have moved towards inbound links and their quality as a measure of a website’s importance. The rise of link popularity, as a measure of the links pointing to a website, is founded on the belief that great sites will naturally attract many links and content poor sites will have difficulty attracting any links. While Google is the front runner in giving importance to link popularity, other major search engines such as Yahoo, MSN and AltaVista have also given importance to link popularity, making it a critical component of your search engine strategy.

1. High Page Rank – While Page Rank has been somewhat discredited among the elite of the search engine optimizers, the fact remains that Page Rank is by far one of the most viable methods of determining the importance of a web page. Page Rank remains an important, but not a defining element towards establishing link popularity. . 2. Permanent Links – Google puts a small restriction or penalty on new websites. This penalty, in part monitors the “age” of the inbound links of a website. This draws on the importance of getting permanent links to increase your link popularity. It will work on eliminating your Sandbox penalties while maintaining the reputation you have built. 3. Site Quality – The quality of a website, as determined by the search engines, is a major factor, along with Page Rank, in establishing the importance of a link. 4. Reciprocal Linking – This is definitely the fastest way to get a ton of links pointing to your website. As long as your link directory is broken down into themed categories, you should most definitely trade links with the other website. You should always trade links with another website no matter if they: • Have a PR0 page. If you trade links with them, chances are, they’re also actively building links, so this PR0 page will soon be a PR3, PR4, and even more. • Over 30 links on a links page. Any link will help your rankings, as long as the website you’re exchanging with is not banned. (Gray Google Page Rank).

5. Natural Link Building - The building blocks of site to site linking, as search engines understand and define it. Search engines justify using link popularity as a ranking tool with the idea that good quality sites will naturally attract links.

The Key to Successful Web Traffic Generation

You've heard the catch phrase a million times, but what is "Link Pop" exactly?

It's simple really. A website's link popularity, often called "Link Pop", can be determined by the quality, quantity, and relevance of the other websites that link to its page.

Link Pop can be a tricky thing. In the good old days, search engines determined a site's page ranking by the amount of times the keywords appeared in the text. Soon webmasters learned that if they squeezed an obnoxious amount of keywords into their site's text, the site would eventually gain a very high page ranking.

Since search engines like Google gain users by serving quality webpage matches, they had to get smarter than the web developers. Google decided that instead of keyword match-ups only, page ranking would in addition be based on pages that had the most links to them. In theory, a website that has a bunch of other pages linking to it must be good, right? Wrong.

Webmasters would create these links any way that they could. "Link Farms" began developing and cluttering up the web. A link farm is essentially a page with tons of links on it, often in no particular order. These pages were virtually useless to web users, yet web designers were using them to gain better page rankings.

The thing is, search engines aren't designed for web developers. They are designed for web users. Thus, when the "best" sites weren't showing up first, Google had to try yet another strategy.

This time links would be categorized. The best kind of link is an "Inbound Link." An "Inbound Link" basically means another site links to your site. This generally happens because the webmaster of the site feels that the information on your site is valuable to his or her readers. Your page ranking will improve significantly if the website has a higher page ranking than yours and if there is obvious relevance between the two sites.

An "Outbound Link" means that your site offers a link to another site. "Outbound Links" don't hurt your popularity if they are relevant sites, but they don't necessarily help.

Then we have "Reciprocal" and "Non-Reciprocal" links. A reciprocal link means that two sites connect to each other. A non-reciprocal link is a one-way link. Search engines are able to tell the difference between reciprocal and non-reciprocal links. Obviously non-reciprocal links are more credible because there is no direct benefit to the linker, and will thus increase your link popularity.

In order to create link pop for your website, you should focus on creating as many inbound non-reciprocal links as possible. One of the best ways to do this is through locating sites that are similar to your own and that accept links on their site from other related websites.

This can be a very time consuming process if done manually but there are many software programs out there that can make the job much easier and in less time then if you were doing it manually.

One of the best programs on the internet to handle this process is called Backlink Submitter and it can be found at http://www.backlinksubmitter.com

Link directories are another great way to build ones link pop. Essentially, a link directory provides users with a collection of links organized by topic. There are thousands of directories to choose from. DMOZ and Yahoo! are the most heavily weighted.

Directories exist solely to provide users with valuable resources. They are edited and organized by humans, so appearing in a directory can be a measure of a site's worth. If your website is listed, it is viewed by users as a credible source.

Get your link in many directories as you can! There are two benefits. It will generate targeted traffic to your site, and it can improve your page ranking. When choosing a directory, look for the ones that allow you to add your own title and/or keywords. Choose directories that have less than 50 listings per page, and make sure the addition can improve your page ranking.

The submission process can be frustrating and time-consuming. The upside is, once your link is posted your link pop can shoot through the roof.

What Is Three-Way Linking All About?

The talk over linking and the value it has to your website has intensified over the past few years with no one truly being able to tell which is most efficient. There are one way links, two way links and three way links, but the only people that honestly know which is best for you is Google. The problem is that Google has taken it upon themselves to keep everyone in the dark on this.

The newest form of back links to come about is three way linking. In simplest terms, three way linking is when Site A links to Site B, Site B links to Site C and Site C links to Site A. The problem with getting back links using this method is that you have to be able to trust everyone that links with you.

With two way links, you have to be able to trust one person and hope that they will truthfully put your link on their site. With three way links there are more people to trust with that much more of a chance that someone will try to cheat you. If one person breaks the chain and cheats you out of your rightful link, the whole circle is ruined.

It doesn't take a great amount of time or effort to get one or two way links, but it can become a little more confusing with three way links. The reason being is that there is more to calculate and record to make sure your links are being placed on other people's websites. If you get a number of different three way links going, it becomes almost impossible to keep track.

Although it isn't too difficult, the most time consuming part is initiating the trade. You have to research and find your qualified candidates to be involved in the exchange and then contact them. Once you contact them, you will probably have to explain why a three way link exchange will be more beneficial than a simple two way link exchange. Because of this, be prepared to explain with details and statistics about how you all will benefit.

After that, you may want to consider bringing up the trust factor. While it isn't the end of the world if you get cheated out of a back link, it can be frustrating to go through the entire process only to find out that you don't even have a link pointing back to you. If you can bring up the trust factor without threatening anybody, you will have a better chance at building an efficient three way link exchange.

Three way links can be a great way to build back links for your website. The only risk is that there are more chances for a website to back out or cheat you from a link. As long as you research and find trustworthy people, three way links can be extremely beneficial for your website.

3 Things You Should Do When Your Search Rankings Suddenly Drop

Anyone who depends on search engines for traffic - which is just about all of us - has a common disorder. It is our preoccupation with our rankings. It only makes sense that this be so widespread. After all, those rankings often ARE our business. At least as far as supplying those prospects we so desperately need.

It's safe to say that all of us have woken up to see our rankings drop from page 1 to a status that can only be compared to being enrolled in the Federal Witness Relocation Program. You can't be found. And that's bad news.

Here's what you should do when this happens. You may not be able to fix the problem quickly, but you'll at least be in a much better position to address it and deal with it.

1. DON'T PANIC.

This is very important to remember. Take it seriously, but don't lose it. There are many reasons why rankings can drop. Sometimes it's due to one of Google's famous algorithm shake-ups. This might be a temporary shift that will see your rankings restored in short order. The key here is to avoid the urge to do something that will only hurt your site, its long-term rankings & your business itself.

Many people will jump to work and make large-scale changes in their site. They try to bring it in line with what they think the search engines want now. This can actually hurt their standing in the search engines as they alter the structure and layout of their pages.

It confuses the search engine bots and creates an impression of confusion, a lack of cohesion in the site. That's bad for rankings. So, remember - Don't Panic. The drop may be temporary. If it isn't, an impulsive Bulldoze & Rebuild job is not the way out.

2. Think Back: What Have You Changed Recently?

Sometimes your rankings plummet because of something you did. For example, I've had rankings drop because I screwed up the code on some redirects I did in my .htaccess file. Did you add some new pages lately? Check that the links in them, and to them, are pointed correctly. If you write the destination URLs wrong you're feeding the search engines a bunch of 404 Error pages. They don't like that.

There are many things that could cause the rankings to slip. Keep in mind that you should look at changes you've made as long as 2 weeks ago, just to be safe. Search engine bots vary in how often they come by your site, so they may be reacting to an alteration that is old news to you, but new to them.

3. Keep Going

It's tempting to turn to the dark side of SEO, become a Black Hat when you see your rankings drop. Especially when you see a weak site, or a totally irrelevant one, outrank yours. We've all been there. But you know what the right choice is, even if it's hard to resist doing a little cloaking. What you must do is continue building a solid site: adding relevant, targeted content, working on your site structure so that all content can be found & indexed by the search engines, working on links to your site. A little boring? Yes, sometimes. But it's the best choice, especially for those of us looking to be in business for the long-term.

Keep in mind these 3 steps next time you see rankings fall. It's okay to be frustrated. It's okay to be confused. It's even okay to be a little angry. Let it out, constructively, and then get back to work. It's the surest path.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for the beginner

Ranking near the top on the major Search Engines is the real key to bringing free, targeted traffic to your website. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) will help to take your website above your competition, and towards that number 1 position.

When a search is performed on Google, the resulting Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) are decided depending on certain criteria set down by that particular Engine. These criteria include the placement and density of the chosen keywords within the website, external link popularity, and structure of the web page to name a small few. Not only does each search engine use a different set of criteria for ranking websites, but also these criteria are constantly changing as they refine their results on a continual basis. The following will help you on your road to optimising your own website.

Keyword Analysis When designing websites, finding the right key words involves considerable research and is one of the hardest and most time-consuming tasks. It involves using the keywords under which you would like to be found, and then finding out whether anyone searches on these keywords and how popular they are. For certain keywords, others may have to be chosen that give a better search-to-competition ratio. It is also important to ensure keywords are relevant and specific to each of the web pages. Each web page should be optimised individually depending on the content of that page.

Website Design There are two goals a Webmaster should try to achieve when designing websites. First, it must be visually pleasing to the customer. Your website will probably be the first introduction to your business and so it must be professionally written and provide them with easy access to the information they are looking for. With all that hard work attracting visitors to your website, the last thing you want to do is see them press the BACK button as soon as they arrive at your site. The main goal of each web page should be either to offer something the visitor is looking for, or to direct them to that page.

Second, the website must be search engine friendly. To ensure all your website's pages are properly indexed with all the search engines, it is important to avoid broken links, automatic redirects, an all-flash or all-images pages and every page contains unique and informative text.

Site Content With the website's code optimised for search engine readiness, and your keywords chosen to match the message you want to put across to your customers, now comes the task of writing those content-rich web pages that will sell your product or service to the customer. Writing rich content that contains the necessary keywords, and yet remains easy to read without being stilted, involves much thought and can take considerable time. Websites optimised in this way and avoiding quick fix Black Hat techniques, are more likely to produce a constant flow of targeted traffic to your business and prevent your website from getting penalised or even banned altogether.

Link Analysis Many of the major search engines, and most importantly Google, assign great importance to a 'Natural Link Profile' when indexing a website. Unfortunately, its not just a matter of incorporating as many links coming in and going out of your site as you can, but great emphasis should be placed on factors such as who you're linking to, using associated links from well-respected websites, and positioning your link near a small paragraph of relevant Anchor text that contains keywords associated to the page the link is pointing to.

Much time can be spent creating a natural linking pattern for your website. By avoiding link farms and reciprocal-link requests from shady websites, and concentrating on linking to and from respected and authoritative web sites, you will be well on your way to success. If you're not sure if the website is respected, sometimes common sense can be your best friend. If the answer to 'would you like to tell your friends and family to visit this wonderful website' is a no, then that should be your answer.

Submit, Review, Revise, Submit again, and keep going! Optimisation is an ongoing project. It is important to review your rankings at least once a month and to compare your website against your competition. Not only do new websites appear all the time, but search engines, continually change their ranking criteria, so that a ranking on the first page today, may suddenly drop to page 3 the following week. It is also necessary for a website to grow in size and content, otherwise it will fall behind the many other websites on the Internet fighting for the same top ranking you are searching for.

With perseverance and a little by little each day, your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) efforts should show continual rewards as you head ever upward towards that number 1 ranking spot on Google. Good luck.

8 Ways To Earn Income Online

8 Ways To Earn Passive Income Onl ine Wouldn't you like to take a vacation whenever you want, or have your wife stop working so she can look after the kids and still keep up the payment of your bills? Well, if you wish to achieve this, you need to build a passive residual income.

Definition of passive residual income:

The definition of traditional passive income is "Income generated with minimal work from your investments such as interest, dividends, or real estate rentals." However in this article we are discussing creating a passive income online. Investment of time and money is initially required to build a passive income online, then possibly minimal work thereafter.

The benefits of generating a passive income:

1. Make a strong initial effort to get your income started, then do minimal work (or virtually none) thereafter, resulting in earning more and doing less.

2. Freedom to choose when and where you wish to work.

3. Your passive residual income is not dependent on a 9-5 work week and can be generated 24 hours, 7 days a week.

4. Able to give yourself a pay raise whenever you want by creating multiple income streams.

5. Create an unlimited amount of income - you are only limited by your imagination.

6. Have more free time to spend time with your family, friends or go on vacation.

7. Ability to give to charitable causes.

8. Create residual income for your future retirement.

Types of passive income streams to build online:

1. Affiliate Programs - passive income is derived from setting up a web site that presells a companies' products. The parent company provides the products, tracks the sales and gives you a commission for each sale. Find companies that offer large commissions, and will track clients for multiple sales over a long period of time (ie lifetime) so you can get recurring commissions. Make sure they offer multiple tiers (at least 2) for sales. ie you still get paid if one of your affiliates makes a sale.

One of the best examples is the 5 Pillar Affiliate Program from Ken Envoy.

He offers a number of great products with high commissions with excellent sales materials and content to help you presell his products.

2. Information Products - the web is great place to create an ebook that explains 'How to" information ie How to start an online business, How to buy a car without getting ripped off..anything that makes life easier for people. People are hungry for information, therefore if there is a need, you can create an ebook and sell it on the Net.

What are the benefits of creating an ebook?

Easy to create - you just need the ebook creation software. Takes a short amount of time - you can create an info report in a few hours or days. A large ebook may take several weeks or months. Low cost - costs will include ebook creation software, web site design, web hosting and marketing. Once you this set up, with good promotion in the search engines, you can make sales from your ebook 24 hours a day for years to come. Add an affiliate program - increase the number of ebook sales sales by getting other people to sell it for a commission. This enables you greatly increase your passive income. Allow reprint rights - charge a fee for people that will have the complete reprint rights. They are able to place there own affiliate links in the ebook and sell it for the same price to others.

3. Creating software products - if you have a good idea for a software product that will help people do something faster, easier or teach them something, then you may have a winner.

A friend of mine created a course that educates autism kids step by step. He then sells the course on a CD to educational institutions and individuals all over the world. He makes a nice passive income each month from his initial investment of time, effort and money. The best example is Bill Gates who created the Microsoft Corporation selling the Windows Operating System. You could do the same on a smaller scale.

4. Advertising commissions - if you have a web site that attracts 1000s of visitors a day from the search engines, you can offer to place a banner or link on your site for a fee that you collect each month. You set it up once, then collect the passive residual income.

Newsletters,or ezines - offer advertising space in your ezine. The greater number of subscribers you have the more you can charge every time you publish. eBooks - offer advertising space in your ebook. Give the ebook away for free or even place links in it from affiliate programs you recommend. Google AdSense - place Google Ads on your web site. When someone clicks on the ad, you get a commission for every click. If you have 100s or 1000s of pages on your site, you can earn a substantial monthly income.

5. Pay Per Click Campaigns - you can make money instantly by setting up a Google AdWords campaign for your product or affiliate program. If there are not too many competitors promoting the same product and it is in high demand, you can earn a good passive income. Creating several successful campaigns will multiply the amount you can make.

6. Referrals - create a network of people that offer services or products related to your business. Ask for a commission every time you refer someone. For example as a web designer, I sometimes refer clients to graphic designers, search engine optimization experts, copywriters and database designers especially when I don't have the time to do the work myself or it is outside my area of expertise.

7. Create a membership site - if you are an expert in your field and can provide the resources, knowledge and support, you can charge a monthly fee to gain access to your membership site. The more members you gain, the more money you make. Because you are an expert in your field, you can also recommend other products and services to your members, from which you earn commissions.

8. Become a Reseller - by reselling other people's services you can earn ongoing residual income.

One such example is web hosting or domain name registration. You pay a monthly fee to the reseller and you can charge whatever you like to your customers for your service. Of course you must be thoroughly familiar with the service to provide the necessary support to your clients.

Conclusion: Building multiple passive income streams is a great way to secure yourself for the future. You never know if you will be laid off from your regular job, get too ill to work, experience a disaster or want to start saving for your retirement.

Choose one of the above types of passive income streams and take action now, to secure your financial future.
